Pay attention to what follows: meat consumption has skyrocketed. The prices of Iberian pork, beef and sheep in Spain are at historic levels; white pig prices are also high, as are chicken prices. This situation will be passed on to consumers, as has already been noted in the CPI for August in the case of lamb meat. Why has this situation come about? Well, the reasons are different depending on each of the sectors, but the reality is that, between the reduction in livestock numbers and the increase in demand, due to the pull of either domestic consumption of Iberian pigs or exports of beef and sheep, animal prices have skyrocketed. As livestock numbers do not recover overnight, especially for bovine animals, there are still months of sky-high prices, barring an unexpected event.
