In 2020, Southeast Asia and Oceania became the largest markets for U.S. distiller’s dried grains with solubles (DDGS), accounting for over one-third of global exports, despite challenges like African Swine Fever and COVID-19. This region imported 3.83 million metric tons of U.S. DDGS, a significant increase from 2016. Vietnam, Indonesia, Thailand, the Philippines, and New Zealand were the top five importers. The U.S. Grains Council's efforts to provide technical expertise and connect grain buyers and end-users with U.S. suppliers have been key to this growth. Despite phytosanitary issues, U.S. DDGS demand in the region continues to rise due to its nutritional value and wide use in animal feed. The Council aims to further expand in the aquaculture and dairy sectors.
