In July 2020, U.S. cheese production saw a 1.8% increase, reaching 1.107 billion pounds. Despite a drop in Italian type cheese production by 1.5%, American types, including cheddar, saw a 4% rise. Butter production also saw a 0.7% increase. However, nonfat dry milk for human consumption decreased by 5.2%, and skim milk powder by 9.7%. Dry whey production increased by 2%, while lactose for human and animal consumption saw a decrease of 6.9%. Whey protein concentrate also experienced a decline of 2.1%.
