Isparta, a city in Turkey famous for its rose and lavender garden, is also known for its cherry production. Each year, the city produces 70 thousand tons of cherries, which are exported to 20 countries, mainly to Germany, European and Balkan countries, and China. The cherry harvest usually takes place between the end of June and the end of July. Throughout the year, the cherry trees undergo ground fertilization, pruning, winter spraying, and disease and pest control. The harvested cherries are then bought by exporting companies. The production of cherries is significant to the local economy, providing an input of 300 million Turkish liras and providing employment for many. Isparta has sent the 'royal cherry' to the British royal family, promoting its produce on a global scale.
