Cherry Season Begins in Ukraine

Ukrainian gardeners have begun selling the new domestic cherry harvest, and despite spring frosts and unfavorable weather conditions, the season started at the usual time without delays. EastFruit reports on this. As of the end of May, cherries from local farms are being offered on the market at prices ranging from 100 to 200 UAH/kg, depending on the variety and batch volume. At the same time, the quality of the first batches is assessed as low, as they are mostly early varieties with small caliber. For comparison, high-quality imported cherries cost significantly more — from 400 to 850 UAH/kg, depending on the country of origin and variety. Analysts note that early varieties are not in high demand among wholesale buyers due to the small size of the berries. Given this, gardeners expect prices to drop once larger berries from later varieties appear on the market. Last year, the cherry season also began around the same period.
