In the first half of 2020, Chiapas reached a papaya production of 84,806 tons, making it the fourth largest producer in Mexico, with expectations to surpass 2019's production of 153,393 tons. The state currently has 2,096 hectares dedicated to papaya cultivation and has already achieved 55% of the total production for the year. Despite a slight increase in production over the past two years, figures are still similar to those from 2015. Oaxaca, Veracruz, Colima, and Michoacán are the leading states in papaya production in Mexico, accounting for over 80% of the national production.
