Chile and Uruguay also suspend purchases of chicken from Brazil

Chile and Uruguay announced on Friday (16) the suspension of imports of chicken meat from Brazil, in response to the first confirmed case of bird flu in the country. The outbreak was detected on a commercial farm in the state of Rio Grande do Sul, and announced by the Brazilian government on Thursday (15). With this, the two countries join the list of nations that had already taken similar measures, including China and the European Union. Argentina, through Senasa (National Food Safety Agency), also took the same measure, waiting until Brazil is once again certified as free of bird flu. The Argentine government reinforced the importance of intensifying biosafety measures on Brazilian farms.
