Chile is a major global raspberry producer and exporter, with a peak planting area of 12,000 hectares in 2007. However, factors such as low yields and labor shortages have led to a decline in competitiveness, with the planting area shrinking. To combat this, Chile introduced the Raspberry Variety Improvement Program in 2009, which has led to the development of high-yielding, high-quality raspberry varieties. These varieties are suitable for both small-scale and large-scale farming and have superior yield and fruit quality compared to previous varieties. Chile also has over 50 years of experience in exporting frozen fruits to more than 50 countries, with an export value of about 500 million US dollars, and has a zero-tariff advantage for exports to China.
