Chile is experiencing growth in the organic agriculture sector, with a increase in consumption and product diversity. However, challenges such as lack of clear policies, confusion in the market, and low prices for fresh organic products persist. Despite the implementation of Law 20.089, certification costs have not decreased as expected. Benavente suggests including small producers in sustainable agriculture and promoting Chile as an 'island' of organic products to advance in the sector. He also emphasizes the importance of regulating and labeling Genetically Modified (GM) products and believes that with support from the Agricultural Development Institute (INdap) and a focus on marketing and product development, Chile can overcome these challenges and become a leader in organic production.
