In the first quarter of 2022, Chile's vegetable imports totaled 48.6 million CIF dollars, marking a 2.6% decrease from the previous year, as reported by the Office of Agricultural Studies and Policies (Odepa). The imports saw a varied trend across different categories, with increases in frozen vegetables and pasta by 17.7% and 11% respectively, but decreases in fresh formats, seeds, dehydrated, preserves, and juices. The tomato was the most imported product, accounting for 16.6% of the total value, largely entered as tomato paste. Corn was the second most imported item, mainly in frozen form. China emerged as the leading supplier with 20.5% of the total imported value, followed by the United States, Spain, and Belgium, primarily supplying frozen corn and tomato paste.
