From January to May 2021, Chile's commercial exchange with the world significantly increased by 30.4% compared to the same period in 2020, totaling USD 64,732.4 million. This growth is attributed to a 24.2% increase in exports, which reached USD 35,899.8 million, and a 40% rise in imports, amounting to USD 31,208 million. May alone saw a 33.9% increase in exports and a 75.8% surge in imports. The mining sector played a crucial role in this growth, with a 44.9% increase in exports and copper minerals being the top product. Despite challenges, the non-mining sector also experienced a 3.0% growth in sales. China remained the main buyer of Chilean products, accounting for 38.7% of total exports, and copper was the second most significant product with a 40.0% share within mining products.
