Chilean walnuts are gearing up for 2024

The Chilean walnut industry made a first estimate of the season, indicating that it would be 160 thousand tons. That is why we spoke with the president of the Association of Walnut Producers and Exporters of Chile (Chilenut), Juan Esteban Rodríguez. A few days ago CIREN and ODEPA presented the results of the fruit cadastres carried out in the regions of Valparaíso and Metropolitana, where the walnut tree recorded a total loss of 1,606 hectares. The Valparaíso Region presents a start of 697 hectares, going from 7,003 hectares in the last cadastre (2020) to 6,306 hectares, which represents a decrease of 9.9%. For its part, the Metropolitan Region went from 16,430 hectares planted with walnut trees to 15,521 hectares, 909 hectares less than in 2020, a drop of 5.5%.
