The Chilean government's export promotion organization, ProChile, has achieved a milestone in seafood exports by successfully exporting fresh salmon and trout from Santiago to Kuala Lumpur within 5 to 6 days, thanks to technological advancements, improved packaging techniques, and new air cargo routes. AquaChile, the first Chilean exporter to explore this route, initiated weekly shipments of fresh Chilean Atlantic salmon to Malaysia in March 2024, in partnership with 'C-Food Portions'. This initiative, which saw exports of salmon and trout to Malaysia reaching US$21 million in 2023, aims to establish Chile as a top seafood producer in the Malaysian market, where many consumers are unaware that the frozen salmon they enjoy often comes from Chile.
