China has prohibited the import of cattle and cattle products from Laos to prevent the spread of lumpy skin disease, following Laos' report of its first outbreaks of the disease in cattle. This decision was made after the disease was detected in China's cattle herd last year. The disease, transmitted by flies or mosquitoes, does not pose a risk to humans and is rarely fatal in cattle.
