In the first half of 2020, China has emerged as a dominant market for Russian meat exports, accounting for approximately 45% of total exports and 54% when Hong Kong is included. This shift is marked by a significant increase in exports to China, from 7,000 tons in 2019 to 79,900 tons in H1 2020, while Ukraine's share of Russian meat imports has decreased from 28% to 16%. Overall, Russia's meat and meat product exports experienced a fivefold increase in value compared to the same period last year, reaching $ 336 million. The surge in exports to China is facilitated by agreements on veterinary and sanitary requirements for poultry meat and dairy products, with the first Russian poultry products sent to China in March 2019. The number of Russian enterprises allowed to export poultry meat to China has been expanded, and the process has been extended to beef producers, with Miratorg being the first to start exports in April 2020.
