China continues to race ahead in GM grains race; 81 varieties have already been approved

China's Ministry of Agriculture announced the final approval of genetically modified (GM) corn and soybean varieties. These varieties passed the evaluation of the China National Crop Variety Registration Committee (CNCVRC), according to a report by the US Department of Agriculture (USDA). This list of approved events includes a total of 30 transgenic varieties (27 corn and 3 soybean). This is the second list published. The first was published in December 2023 and contains 51 varieties. The varieties on this second list were initially released for public comment in March 2024.
