Cantaloupe is a highly profitable fruit with a global market revenue of over $27 billion in 2018, as reported by the Import-Export Department. The majority of this production, approximately 69%, is located in Asia, with China being the world's leader in cantaloupe production, reaching nearly 14 million tons in 2020. China also consumes more cantaloupe than it produces, with about 17 million tons, which accounts for 53% of the global supply.
