China's beef imports have seen a significant increase, reaching $14.2 billion in 2023, up from $8.2 billion in 2019, with Brazil, Argentina, and Australia being the main suppliers. This surge has led the China Livestock Association and other groups to request an investigation by the Ministry of Commerce, claiming it has negatively impacted the domestic industry. The price of beef in China has also seen a decrease, along with a decline in consumer demand due to economic reasons. The Ministry of Commerce is set to conclude its investigation within eight months.
