In November, Moldovan retailers recorded the lowest prices for citrus fruits of the year, averaging $1.37 per kilogram, due to the start of sales of new harvest fruits from Turkey. The main citrus fruits sold in Moldova during the high season, which lasts until March, are tangerines, oranges, and lemons. Turkish Stsuma mandarins are the most popular variety due to their taste and seedlessness. These fruits are cheaper than Greek, Spanish, and South African varieties, contributing to their popularity. Approximately 26-27 thousand tons of citrus fruits are supplied to Moldova annually, and volumes are expected to increase by 10% this year due to the pandemic. The market for exotic fruits is primarily located in the Moldovan capital, Chisinau.
