The World Citrus Organization (WCO) convened its fifth Annual General Assembly on April 18, 2024, where it unveiled the production and export forecasts for the 2024 Southern Hemisphere citrus season. According to the data gathered from member countries including Argentina, Australia, Bolivia, Brazil, Chile, Peru, South Africa, and Uruguay, there's a projected slight decline in citrus production by 0.77% to 24,338,123 tons. However, exports are expected to rise significantly by 7.45% to 4,156,879 tons. The assembly also marked a significant milestone with the introduction of new Steering Committee co-chairs, Sergio del Castillo and Badr Bennis, for the Southern and Northern Hemispheres, respectively, and celebrated the WCO's achievements such as membership expansion, the launch of innovative data tools, and the successful organization of events aimed at promoting the citrus industry.
