COAG estimates losses of 200 million in Jaén due to the effects of the storm on the olive groves

Recent rainfall, combined with windstorms, may have already caused the loss of about 50,000 tons of olive oil in the province of Jaén, which economically could amount to around 200 million euros, just in production, excluding deterioration of infrastructure, gullies, or plantations, according to an estimate by COAG. The general secretary of COAG Jaén and responsible for Olive Groves of COAG Andalusia, Francisco Elvira, explained that the rain has delayed the harvest collection, especially in areas like La Campiña, where waterlogged soils made it difficult or impossible to collect. The data may vary depending on how the weather evolves, but the agricultural organization estimates that a third of the olive harvest is still left to be collected, and that of that third, 40 or 50% of the production would have been lost.
