Record high prices of coconuts in Vietnam, Philippines, and Thailand are due to increased demand and decreased supply caused by climate change, extreme weather, and pests and diseases. The price of fresh coconuts in Vietnam's Mekong Delta has reached around 50.1-58.4 yuan/dozen, and the retail price can go up to 7 yuan/piece. The situation is similar in other major coconut producing countries like Sri Lanka and the Philippines, where prices have increased by 50-100% compared to last year. However, Vietnamese coconuts have found favor in the market due to their unique flavor and easy storage and transport properties, especially in China and the United States, which are their largest markets. Vietnam, being the fifth largest exporter of coconuts, is expected to reach nearly US$1.1 billion in exports by 2024, with fresh coconuts contributing US$390 million.
