Cold weather damage has cost Iran's Kerman Province 130 trillion rials ($456 million) and resulted in a expected decline of 65,000 tons in pistachio production this year, according to the Kerman Chamber of Commerce, Industries, Mines and Agriculture. The extreme cold has also caused an additional 270 trillion rials ($944 million) in damage to orchards across 12 provinces in Iran. The agriculture sector is also facing threats from water shortage, with a report warning of an imminent drought that could further hamper economic growth. Since the beginning of the last crop year, drought has caused 670 trillion rials ($2.4 billion) in losses to Iran's agriculture sector.
