Mexico: Colima ranks first in export and second in the production of papaya

Miguel Jiménez Santana, secretary of Rural Development of the state, assured that the papaya product as such is of great relevance in the state, since Colima is the first state in the export ranking. The official reported that currently 2,000 hectares of crops are produced at the national level, which places Colima as the second producing state, but even so it stands as the first exporter. In figures, he pointed out that 55% of the papayas that are exported are of Colima origin, "hence the relevance of this crop that generates 700 million pesos." He said that through very strategic planning, it has been initially supporting itself with irrigation systems, machinery and investment for technology transfer, relying on an important part in relation to human resources.
