Colombia is expanding the certification of bovine and buffalo establishments for beef export to the US and Canada, due to audit recommendations, with a goal to improve traceability and control. The Colombian Agricultural Institute (ICA) will provide free National Individual Identification Devices for real-time traceability of the establishments. This resolution is expected to benefit producers and help combat illegal slaughter and meat smuggling, covering an estimated 55,000 heads of cattle. Additionally, the country is progressing with its cattle vaccination efforts, with 42.2% of the objective achieved in the current cycle, thanks to collaboration from various stakeholders including the ICA and Fedegán, overseeing the quality of vaccines and logistical activities respectively.
