Colombia: Cattle Slaughter Gains Momentum in 2025! Slaughter for Export Rises More Than Triple

The Colombian livestock sector continues to show signs of recovery and stability. According to official figures, 257,661 bovines were slaughtered in April 2025, a number practically identical to the same month last year, when 257,671 animals were recorded. This slight 0.4% decrease does not represent a negative sign, but rather reflects the seasonal impact generated by Holy Week. Óscar Cubillos Pedraza, economist and director of Planning and Economic Studies at Fedegán, explained that despite the flat performance in April, the overall balance is positive. "In terms of slaughter, the cumulative growth is 9.2%, which is very positive. April was not bad, but it was static compared to the same month in 2024; it barely decreased 0.4%," he noted.
