Colombia's milk production sector is in crisis as major processors like Alpina and Alquería reduce milk intake, worsening a 14-month price drop and threatening producers' incomes, jobs, and food security. Despite declining demand, companies continue to purchase additional milk to avoid disrupting the supply chain, leading to high inventories and increased storage costs. Both the National Association of Milk Producers (Analac) and the Colombian Association of Milk Processors (Asoleche) are calling for urgent measures to balance supply and demand.
