In 2019, Colombia emerged as one of the top 10 suppliers of organic products to the European Union, marking a significant increase from 2018 when it ranked 13th. The country saw a 38% rise in organic product exports to the EU, reaching 87,341 tons from 63,114 tons in the previous year. The majority of these exports were organic fresh or dried tropical fruits, which increased by 31% in 2019. The Netherlands, the United Kingdom, and Germany were the main EU destinations. Colombia's agricultural land covers about 40 million hectares, with only 8 million hectares in cultivation. The country's agricultural and agro-industrial production in 2019 was € 21,668 million, which accounted for 9.5% of its total GDP. The free trade agreement between Colombia and the EU, established seven years ago, has played a crucial role in boosting Colombia's exports to the EU.
