The sugar mango, a fruit known for its high nutritional value and antioxidant properties, was exported to the United States for the first time in 2023. This comes as the US sees a 3.3% increase in mango imports from 2021 to 2023, primarily from Mexico, Peru, Brazil, and Ecuador. Colombia, specifically the department of Magdalena, has also started exporting sugar mangoes in 2023. The Colombian Horticultural Association (Asohofrucol) is actively working to improve crop yields and establish a designation of origin for the sugar mango from Magdalena.
