Colombia's banana sector, representing 70% of the country's banana export hectares, is expected to end the year on a high note with record exports to the United States and Europe, says the Colombian Banana Growers Association (Augura). However, the sector has faced challenges such as increased production costs, tropical fungus, and climate change. In response, Augura is advocating for public policies to improve competitiveness and is developing market diversification strategies. By 2025, the sector aims to implement the due diligence directive, focusing on labor sustainability and establishing a living wage.
