Colombia has exported its first container of fresh mangoes to the United States, following approval from the US Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service in 2021. The fruit was grown at the Varahonda farm in Palmira and packed at Frutales Las Lajas in Zarzal, Valle del Cauca. This marks a significant opportunity for Colombia to increase its fresh fruit exports, creating job opportunities in rural areas. The United States is the ninth market where Colombian mangoes are exported, following Canada, France, the Netherlands, Belgium, the United Arab Emirates, and Qatar. Colombia produces mangoes throughout the year, with approximately 35,000 hectares dedicated to the crop, making it the largest producer, followed by Antioquia and Norte de Santander.
