The Regional Directorate of Agriculture Tacna reported that, during the two vicuña shearings carried out this year, the comuneros of Alto Perú (Tacna) and Mamuta Sur (Tarata) managed to collect 44,289 kilos of vicuña fiber, doubling the production achieved last year and registering the highest volume in recent years. On October 25, in the peasant community of Alto Perú, 140 vicuñas were captured, of which 102 were sheared, obtaining 20,803 kilos of fiber with the participation of 200 comuneros. Subsequently, on November 8, in the Association Mamuta Sur (Tarata), the highest volume in the region was reached, with 23,486 kilos after the capture of 338 vicuñas, thanks to the work of 180 producers trained in shearing techniques.
