Consequences of EU Restrictions: Sugar Beet Areas in Ukraine Reduced by 15%

In 2025, Ukrainian agricultural producers reduced sugar beet areas by 15.4% — to 220,000 hectares. Interfax-Ukraine reports. According to Taras Vysotskyi, the main reason for this reduction was the limited European Union quota for Ukrainian sugar imports. In spring this year, it was only 67,000 tons, although it was later increased to 107,000 tons. In the best periods, Ukrainian sugar exports to the EU reached 473,000 tons, making current volumes significantly smaller. The official added that Ukrainian processors were disappointed by the spring restrictions from the European Union, and this became a key factor in production cutback. In the future, sugar beet areas may continue to decrease — everything will depend on export prospects, particularly access to the European market.
