A new cassava milling plant in Chitambo district, Central Province of Zambia, has been completed and handed over to the government at a cost of three million US dollars. The plant, supported by the Agricultural Productivity and Market Enhancement Project (APMEP), has the potential to contribute significantly to the country's GDP and provide a ready market for farmers. It is expected to create 140 local jobs and support other sectors like livestock by producing feed. The Ministry of Agriculture has encouraged farmers to increase cassava production to ensure the plant's continuous operation.
