Taiwan's vegetable imports reached 295.5 thousand tons in the first nine months of 2021, valued at 232.9 million USD, marking a 3.9% increase in volume and a 13.2% increase in value compared to the same period in 2020. Vietnam was the largest supplier, contributing 20.6% of the total vegetable imports. Notably, Taiwan's import of cabbage, cauliflower, kohlrabi, and kale increased by 33.4% in volume and 46.3% in value, with Vietnam being the largest supplier again. This surge in vegetable imports is attributed to water shortages and hurricane seasons affecting domestic production, leading to higher local prices. The Taiwan market, known for its highly developed economy and the second highest density of convenience stores globally, presents opportunities for vegetable exporters to meet the increasing import demand.
