Ukraine's fish consumption last year reached 550 thousand tons, with 411 thousand tons imported and the rest being domestic catch. The average Ukrainian consumes 15 kg of fish and seafood per year, which is lower than the WHO's recommendation and the average in Europe. The majority of consumption is frozen fish, with live and chilled fish and canned food accounting for a smaller percentage. The main suppliers of fish to Ukraine are Norway, Iceland, the USA, and Turkey. The growth in the fish market is largely due to the promotion of a healthy lifestyle, as fish is a good source of protein and essential fats. Fish is sold in various price categories, making it accessible to different social groups.
