Between January and February 2023, Paraguay saw a significant increase in corn exports, which rose by 265% to 418,359 tons compared to the same period in 2022. This surge is attributed to a successful harvest and high global demand, leading to an influx of foreign currency by February, with a total of USD 101 million compared to USD 29 million in the early months of 2022. Despite the increased exports, the availability of corn for internal use and industrialization remains unaffected. The exports were diversified to various countries, with Brazil being the largest recipient, accounting for 46% of the total shipments. Leading the 85 companies involved in grain exports as of February 2023 were Cargill, LDC, and Agrofértil.
