By Juliana Garçon Rio, 24/09/2025 - The Securities and Exchange Commission (CVM) and the Ministry of Finance are expected to sign, during the Conference of the Parties (COP) in Belém, a memorandum of understanding related to the carbon credit market, and starting in 2026, the regulator should issue regulations on the subject, said CVM director Marina Copola moments ago. “At the COP, in the coming weeks, a memorandum of understanding between the Ministry and the CVM should be signed, and next year it is expected that the CVM will effectively issue regulations that will affect these assets,” said the director during an event at the National Economic and Social Development Bank (BNDES). “This could be a drastic change in the way we view the carbon market, which still lacks more concreteness from the point of view of regulations.” The executive highlighted Law No. 15,042/2024, which establishes the Brazilian Greenhouse Gas Emissions Trading System (SBCE) and sets the basis for a ...
