The damage to agricultural and forest crops caused by elk has been talked about for a long time. These animals also regularly appear on roads, causing dangerous incidents. Will the ministry responsible for the natural environment agree to lift the moratorium on shooting? Recently, Member of Parliament Urszula Pasławska (PSL) addressed the Ministry of Climate and Environment (MKiŚ) regarding the damages to crops and traffic accidents resulting from the growing elk population. She reminded that the moratorium (legal suspension) on shooting elk has been in effect in Poland since 2001. "The decision, driven by the right intention to rebuild the species' population, however, brought about unexpected consequences. Data available to the public indicates that the elk population has increased from about 1,000 to over 40,000 individuals.
