Demand for alpaca fiber and derivatives grows by 9.1% driven by China, Italy, and the U.S.

From January to May of 2025, the export of alpaca fiber and its derivatives reached $88,850,000, registering a growth of 9.1% compared to the same period of 2024 ($81,424,000), reported the Manufacturing Management of the Association of Exporters (ADEX) on the occasion of the National Alpaca Day, which is celebrated every August 1. The president of the Textile Committee of ADEX, Carlos Penny-Bidegaray, emphasized the need to execute the National Census of Peruvian Camelids. "It must include alpacas, llamas, vicuñas, and guanacos. From ADEX, we coordinate with Midagri, Serfor, and companies in the sector to achieve this goal," he affirmed. Of the total exported, 59% corresponded to raw material ($52,494,000), with a rise of 15.5% compared to 2024.
