Demands to prevent water-depleting crops in the Guelmim region in Morocco

Guelmim: Muhammad Soleimani Participants in a round table on the problem of water resources in the Guelmim-Oued Noun region demanded the need to immediately prevent the continued planting of a group of water-depleting crops throughout the territory of the region, because these crops deplete about 97 percent of the region’s water resources. These demands come in order to protect the water bed from depletion and to provide water for subsequent generations, especially since the estimated studies revealed a continuous increase in the demand for water in the region, as the current needs of water in the entire region reach 79.6 million cubic meters for the agricultural sector in the region. And 18.11 percent for potable water, and these needs will rise steadily, so that the agricultural sector’s water needs in 2050 will rise to 93.5 million cubic meters, while the demand for potable water will rise to 26.04 million cubic meters.
