The plan has just been launched following a tender process and has generated great interest. According to the Danish Agriculture & Food Council's Pig Sector, over 500,000 pigs with intact tails have already been secured. The number of pigs with intact tails is expected to double in the next three years, meaning that by 2028, four million Danish pigs with intact tails will be produced. This goal is part of the Danish pig industry's Vision 2050. The first objective is to reach one million pigs with intact tails by 2026. Many pig producers and piglet suppliers participated in the pilot project "A Joint Effort to Preserve Intact Tails" to assess the feasibility of avoiding tail docking. Danish pig producers will be entitled to compensation of 50 Danish kroner for each pig born with an intact tail.
