Denmark will significantly reduce the limit on the use of antibiotics in pigs

Antibiotic consumption in pigs in Denmark has increased slightly in recent years, especially after the gradual elimination of medicinal zinc for weaned piglets. Consequently, the signatory parties of the 2024 Food and Veterinary Agreement agreed that antibiotic consumption should be reduced by a total of 8% by 2027. With a new Ordinance, which will come into force at the end of the year, the limit value in the so-called "Yellow Card" system will be reduced by 20% so that the target can be met. The Ordinance has just been placed in public consultation. The "Yellow Card" system was introduced in 2010 to reduce antibiotic consumption in pigs. Farms with high consumption receive a warning – a "Yellow Card" – and must reduce consumption within a set timeframe.
