The strawberries and berries sector in Spain's Huelva province faced challenges in 2020 due to the pandemic, with strawberry production decreasing by 20% to around 250,000 tonnes. However, the total turnover only fell by 0.6% compared to the previous season, largely due to an increase in blueberry turnover by 14.3%. The drop in exports was only 3.3%, with Germany, France, and the UK being the main consumers of Huelva berries. The sector was affected by the closure of markets and the Horeca chain, but the raspberry and blueberry campaigns were less impacted as they focused on mass distribution.
