(Naju=Yonhap News) Reporter Son Sang-won = In Naju, South Jeolla Province, a suspected case of highly pathogenic avian influenza (HPAI) has been detected at a duck farm, prompting initial measures by disease control authorities. According to the South Jeolla Province on the 21st, an H5 type AI antigen was detected at a broiler duck farm in Bonghwang-myeon, Naju City, on the 20th. The antigen was confirmed during the inspection process before the ducks were sent to the slaughterhouse. The Animal and Plant Quarantine Agency is currently examining whether it is highly pathogenic. Upon detection of the H5 antigen, the South Jeolla Province immediately deployed the initial response team from the Livestock Hygiene and Epidemiology Support Headquarters to control access to the farm and initiated barrier measures. A 24-hour temporary suspension of movement was ordered for poultry farms and related livestock facilities in South Jeolla, North Jeolla, and Gwangju until 11 PM on the same day. The South Jeolla Province has designated an area within a 10 km radius of the affected farm as a quarantine zone, implementing movement restrictions, disinfection, and surveillance. As of today, there have been 15 cases of highly pathogenic avian influenza nationwide, with one case reported in Yeongam, South Jeolla, on the 8th.
