The president of the Andalusian Federation of Fishing Associations, José María Gallart, has expressed disappointment with the EU's 2023 fishing agreement, especially the Mediterranean agreement, as it leads to capacity cuts and job losses. The sector believes the agreement overlooks scientific and socio-economic data presented by the Spanish Government. The agreement is expected to reduce the fishing days from 174 to 150, affecting 40-50% of the fleet in the Spanish Mediterranean. Gallart also raises concerns about the impact on quality as the market may need to source more fish from third countries.
