DO Calasparra Rice: record surface area and production in the current campaign

Within the framework of the Calasparra Designation of Origin, around 60% of the rice area has already been harvested, which this year has been a record, according to José Martínez, president of the Regulatory Council of this DO, in the AGROPOPULAR broadcast of October 18. He specified that 606 hectares of the varieties Balilla x Sollana and Bomba have been planted, which are the varieties protected by the Designation. The majority is the first while the Bomba variety represents around 16% of the surface. According to José Martínez, a production of about 3 million kilos of milled rice is expected, which would also be a record in the last ten years.
