Russia is set to become self-sufficient in oyster production by the end of the year, driven by a surge in aquaculture output which has increased from 2 tons in 2013 to 4.6 thousand tons in 2021. The cost of Russian oysters has also dropped significantly. In 2021, domestic production accounted for over 90% of the market, up from 80% in 2020. The market is projected to reach 5,000 tons this year, with Primorsky Krai leading the production.
