Domestic Gold Kiwi Variety Enhances Competitiveness through Processing and Product Development

Research is actively underway to process and commercialize domestically developed gold kiwi varieties. The Jeju Special Self-Governing Province Agricultural Technology Institute (Director Sang-hwan Go) announced that it is promoting research to process and commercialize the domestically developed gold kiwi varieties 'Sweet Gold' and 'Gamhwang' to enhance their competitiveness. According to the agricultural technology institute, Jeju is the largest kiwi production area in the country, with a cultivation area of 401 hectares as of 2023, accounting for 30% of the national total, and production volume of 12,692 tons, ranking first nationwide. Particularly, the cultivation area of 'Sweet Gold' and 'Gamhwang' in the Jeju region has expanded from 58.8 hectares in 2022 to 68.8 hectares in 2023.
