Poland's vegetable and crop production has been significantly affected by unfavorable weather conditions throughout the year. Excessive soil moisture in the beginning led to delayed field work, while a rainfall deficit in late April and May caused slow growth and development of plants. Frost losses were noted in late April and early May, followed by plant damage due to hailstorms in May and high air temperatures in June that dried the soil. Rainfall in July improved the water balance but caused a soil crust on heavier soils, hindering rainwater penetration. The weather conditions have also favored the development of fungal diseases, plant pests, and molluscs. Despite these challenges, the country expects to harvest around 593 thousand tonnes of cabbage, 111 thousand tonnes of cauliflower, over 695 thousand tonnes of onions, 572 thousand tonnes of carrots, around 150 thousand tonnes of root parsley, and about 249 thousand tonnes of beetroot. The cultivation area increase is expected to boost the tomato, cucumber, celeriac, and sweet corn harvests.
